Ceramics has undergone a transformation. Our service users have developed new skills and assisted by staff are now producing excellent white-ware and glazed products. We continue to produce some terracotta-ware and indeed we now have contracts to supply local companies with our products. Rob and Cheryl's 'can-do' attitude is paying dividends.

At the same time, our service users are telling us they are enjoying themselves more and are pleased to contribute more to the continuous success of the workshop and this is reflected in the increased service user numbers.

Ceramics is a slip-casting workshop, which means we use liquid clay and plaster moulds to make the pots. Clients are involved with all aspects of creating the pots from slip making to decorating and filling the kilns and preparing for sales.

The products are sold in the Garden Centre to the public so they have to be of saleable quality although we do have several seconds or, as we like to say 'trainee practice pieces' sales a year.

This is a production workshop where we do not expect to train clients to be artists or to obtain employment in local ceramics industry. What we do is to teach people new skills and through this build confidence; both of which are transferable to other occupations. As with all workshops at Workbridge, clients have individual goal plans and are assessed on a regular basis.
